Outreach Programs
The Civil Rights Directorate continues to develop outreach initiatives to better serve the public. Through these and other programs the Coast Guard fosters an environment promoting civil rights and community involvement.

Each day, in communities Coast Guard-wide, students in various grade levels participate in education programs under the auspices of the Coast Guard Partnership in Education program. This outreach initiative provides programs that enhance education opportunities and career awareness.
Authorized under the National and Community Service Act of 1990, the Coast Guard Partnership in Education Program encourages members of the Coast Guard to create partnerships within their local schools and communities to promote excellence in education.
Each year the United States Coast Guard, along with other branches of the armed services, participates in national awards ceremonies designed to recognize military and civilian members of the Services who have made significant contributions to Civil Rights and Equal Opportunity.
Title VI of the landmark Civil Rights Act of 1964 prohibits discrimination on the basis of race, color, and national origin in programs and activities receiving federal financial assistance.
