Master Chief Petty Officer of the Coast Guard Michael Leavitt speaks at a Coast Guard Headquarters ceremony to mark the 70th Anniversary of Signalman 1st Class Douglas Munro's actions at Guadalcanal. Munro was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for extraordinary heroism for his actions during the evacuation of Marines trapped by enemy forces at Point Cruz, Guadalcanal, on September 27, 1942. Coast Guard Commandant Adm. Bob Papp wrote a Compass Blog post in honor of the anniversary.
