Preparing for tomorrow
Thu, 15 Dec 2011 12:48:57 EST
Master Chief Petty Officer of the Coast Guard Michael P. Leavitt, Chief Warrant Officer Mark Davenport from the Coast Guard Office of Boat Forces, and several members of the crew of Coast Guard Station Washington, DC, take turns driving the next generation of Defender Class "B" Boats (RB-S Gen II) December 14, 2011. The original Defender Class Boats were developed as a replacement for 300 shore based non-standard boats. The RB-S became the platform to increase the long term capability at shore stations in the wake of the tragic events of September 11, 2001. As some RB-S near the end of their 10-year service life, they will be replaced with the second generation RB-S starting in early 2012. (U.S. Coast Guard photo by LT Jason Hagen).
