2/3/2012 4:30:23 AM

On Tuesday night, Coast Guard Vice Commandant Vice Adm. Sally Brice-O'Hara joined members of Congress to salute the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), which marked 150 years of service this month. "I commend the professionalism that you bring to every duty that you undertake," remarked the admiral, noting the Coast Guard's new Fast Response and Offshore Patrol Cutters are being built to ABS standards. ABS is a classification society which manages standards for commercial vessel construction. The Coast Guard and ABS have been close partners in a commitment to maritime safety for over 80 years. Seen here is Vice Adm. Brice-O'Hara with ABS President Christopher Wiernicki and Chairman, Robert Somerville.
