CGJROTC Instructor Eligibility


  • Eligibility for Certification
    • Must have active duty or reserve service in the United States Coast Guard (USCG) as:
      • Commissioned officer (grades W-2 through O-6), or Non-commissioned officer (grades E-7 through E-9)
      • And fall into one of the following categories:
        • Retired from the Coast Guard or Coast Guard Reserve within the past five years
        • Active member of the Coast Guard Selected Reserve (SELRES) with at least eight years of credible service
        • Veteran with at least eight years of credible Coast Guard service and separated honorably within the past five years
  • Education Requirements
    • Senior Maritime Science Instructor: Bachelor’s degree in any discipline
    • Maritime Science Instructor: Associate’s degree, or ability to obtain one within five years of initial employment as a CGJROTC instructor
    • Only degrees from regionally accredited colleges or universities recognized by the Department of Education (DOE) are accepted. Accreditation can be verified through the Department of Education’s Database of Accredited Postsecondary Institutions and Programs (DAPIP).
