Personnel Bio

MU1 Matthew Yee

 Musician 1st Class Matthew Yee, euphonium, is originally from Auburn,
 California. Prior to joining the U.S. Coast Guard Band in May 2024, he
 earned bachelor’s degrees in both music and civil engineering from
 Valparaiso University in Indiana. MU1 Yee placed first at the 2022 Music
 International Grand Prix competition in New York, and the solo competition
 at the 2023 International Euphonium Tuba Festival in Atlanta, GA. He was
 also a winner of the Valparaiso University Concerto Competition on
 trombone in 2022. His instructors have included Richard Watson, Steph
 Frye-Clark, Julian Dixon, Kevin Dombrowski, and John Grodrian.
 While passionate for music, MU1 Yee also hopes to find an outlet for his
 civil engineering skills in water resources or land development. He is an
 avid baseball fan and enjoys traveling, especially on road trips to national
 parks.
