Senior Chief Musician Steven Petersen, percussionist, received his bachelor’s degree in music education from Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, where he was named to the Pi Kappa Lambda Honors Music Fraternity. He received a master’s degree in percussion performance from Southern Methodist University in Dallas in 2003. His principal instructors are Judy Moonert, Douglas Howard, and Kalman Cherry. Performances include the world premiere of Two Pieces for Percussion by Richard Adams in Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall. MUC Petersen has performed with the Battle Creek Symphony in Michigan, as well as the Garland Symphony, the Las Colinas Symphony, and the New Symphony in Texas. MUCS Petersen joined the United States Coast Guard Band in January 2003.
