MU1 Patrick Nyren
Musician 1st Class Patrick Nyren, euphonium, joined the Coast Guard Band in 2023 after serving nearly 10 years in the U.S. Army Bands. His previous assignments include the 1st Armored Division Band at Fort Bliss, TX, the Maneuver Center of Excellence Band at Ft. Moore, GA, Euphonium Instructor at the United States Army School of Music at Joint Base Little Creek-Fort Story, VA, and the U.S. Army Field Band at Fort Meade, MD. He is a graduate of the University of North Texas where he earned his Doctor of Musical Arts and Master of Music Degrees in euphonium performance under the guidance of Dr. Brian L. Bowman. Previously, he received his Bachelor of Music Degree in Music Education at the University of Southern Maine, where he began his college education at the early age of 16 and studied with Michael S. Milnarik. Other mentors in his musical journey include Dr. Allan Kaplan.
Patrick has been a part of commissioning several new pieces for the euphonium including a new concerto for euphonium and orchestra by Howard J. Buss. The piece was premiered for euphonium and piano in March 2018 in recital at Columbus State University in Georgia. As a military musician, he has been a soloist and clinician throughout the country and internationally appearing at several universities, schools, and conferences as an ambassador of military musicians. He is a two-time recipient of the Colonel Finley R. Hamilton Outstanding Military Musician Award and a Sergeant Audie Murphy Award recipient.
Outside of his role as a musician, Patrick enjoys spending time with his family, teaching, endurance running, and going to live music events.
