MU1 Gianluca Farina
Musician 1st Class Gianluca Farina joined the U.S. Coast Guard Band in May 2026. He previously served as Acting 3rd/Associate Principal Trumpet with the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra, Principal Trumpet with the Sarasota Orchestra, and as a Fellow at the New World Symphony.
MU1 Farina has spent summers performing with the Des Moines Metro Opera as Principal Trumpet, the Utah Festival Opera, Tanglewood Music Center, Pacific Music Festival, National Orchestral Institute, and National Repertory Orchestra. He has also appeared as a guest musician with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, The Florida Orchestra, Richmond Symphony, Sarasota Opera, and Nu Deco Ensemble.
As a clinician, Gianluca has coached the Sarasota and Charlotte Symphony Youth Orchestras. He has presented masterclasses at the Universities of Florida and Central Florida, and has taught private lessons and performed a solo recital at his alma mater, the State University of New York at Fredonia. MU1 Farina also worked for the New World Symphony's College Track Mentorship Program and as trumpet faculty at Usdan Summer Camp for the Arts.
Gianluca holds degrees from the Colburn School, New England Conservatory of Music, and SUNY Fredonia. His primary teachers were James Wilt, Thomas Rolfs, and Alex Jokipii. During his fellowship at the New World Symphony, he pursued additional studies with David Bilger, Michael Sachs, Barbara Butler, Mark Inouye, Ethan Bensdorf, Bill Williams, and Thomas Hooten.
When not playing trumpet, Gianluca enjoys playing guitar, tabletop and video games, working out, exploring new places, honing his cooking skills, and spending time with his wife, Gilma, and their dog, Fusilli.
