Chief Musician Joel Baroody is a native of Herndon, Virginia, where he began playing trumpet at age 10. MUC Baroody graduated from the Honors College of the University of South Carolina in 2008 with a Bachelor of Music in trumpet performance, and from Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music with a Master of Music degree in 2010. Joel joined the Coast Guard Band in May, 2011 after finishing one year of work towards the Artist's Diploma at Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. While in school, he performed with the Lexington Philharmonic, the South Carolina Philharmonic, the Charleston Symphony Orchestra, and the Capital Focus Jazz Band (as the drummer). Joel's principal teachers were Alan Siebert, Phil Collins, James Ackley, and Ed Cooper, and additionally studied with Robert Sullivan and Steven Hendrickson. When he is not practicing, Joel enjoys playing sports of all kinds (especially golf and ice hockey), cooking and learning new musical instruments.
