Personnel Bio

MUC Tyler Wilkins

Chief Musician Tyler Wilkins, bassoon and contrabassoon, joined the Coast Guard Band in January 2016. He is from Erlanger, Kentucky, and he began his formal instruction on the bassoon at Eastern Kentucky University, earning a bachelor's degree in bassoon performance in 2011. MU1 Wilkins then earned a master of music degree from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music in 2013, and he is now nearing the completion of his doctor of musical arts degree there as well. Prior to his appointment to the Coast Guard Band, Wilkins was performing with several orchestras in Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana, including the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra and the Louisville Orchestra. He has a sincere devotion to the contrabassoon, and is also an amateur jazz saxophonist. Wilkins' primary bassoon teachers have been Elizabeth Young Rennick, Martin James, and William Winstead.
