MU1 Daniel Raney

Musician 1st Class Daniel Raney, timpani, joined the U.S. Coast Guard Band in February 2021. Prior to joining the Band, MU1 Raney was a freelance musician performing with the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, the Erie Philharmonic, the West Virginia Symphony, and several other orchestras.  During the summer months, he held the positions of Timpanist for the National Repertory Orchestra and Fellowship Percussionist for the Aspen Music Festival.  Daniel holds performance degrees from Cleveland Institute of Music (M.M.) where he studied with Paul Yancich, and The Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University (B.M.) where he studied with Robert van Sice.  While at Peabody, he studied and performed early medieval music with Divisio, a three-man ensemble that was twice awarded the prestigious Peabody Honors Ensemble status, as well as the Johns Hopkins University Provost Undergraduate Research Award.  Daniel recently taught percussion and drum set at the Westlake Music Academy in Ohio. Daniel is originally from Austin, Texas.
