MUCS Heather Doughty
Senior Chief Musician Heather Doughty, horn, has been a member of the U.S. Coast Guard Band since 1999 and is currently the Band’s chief scheduler. She previously served as the chief music librarian for nine years. Before entering the Band, MUCS Doughty attended Ithaca College where she earned a Bachelor of Music degree in horn performance and Ohio State University where she earned a Master of Music degree also in horn performance. During her time in the Band, MUCS Doughty has performed in a variety of roles within the horn section including principal for several years and currently serves as second horn and section leader.
When not working and performing with the Band, Heather enjoys teaching horn students of all ages. Over the years, these students have enjoyed great success with many going on to careers in music and she hopes one day that one of her students will take her place. MUCS Doughty’s principle teachers have been Ginger Culpepper, John Covert, Bill Bernatis, and Charles Waddell.
In addition to music, travel is a lifelong passion for Heather. This passion has taken her around the globe including all fifty states. She also enjoys spending time with her family, reading, and hiking.
