MUC Sean Maree

Chief Musician Sean Maree has been co-principal bassoonist of the United States Coast Guard Band since 2018. In addition to performing with the Band, Sean also regularly performs in various ensembles in New England including the Rhode Island Philharmonic, the Hartford Symphony and the Opera Theatre of Connecticut. Prior to joining the Band, Sean was a regular guest with the Pittsburgh Symphony (PA) and the Richmond Symphony (VA). He has also performed with the Nashville Symphony (TN), Jacksonville Symphony (FL), Boston Symphony (MA) and with the Washington National Opera at the Kennedy Center Opera House (Washington, DC). From 2013-2017 he was a member of the New World Symphony (Miami Beach, FL) under the direction of Founder and Music Director Michael Tilson Thomas. In addition to performing, Sean is a strong believer in the power of music to change lives. He has worked with young musicians in masterclasses and clinics throughout the United States and abroad, and has taught bassoon at Connecticut College (New London, CT), the Neighborhood Music School (New Haven, CT) and at his own private studio. 

As a chamber musician, Sean serves as the bassoonist for the United States Coast Guard Woodwind Quintet. With the quintet he has toured the Pacific Northwest in recitals and masterclasses as well as performing for high level Coast Guard and National ceremonies in Washington, DC. Previous chamber engagements include concerts with varied ensembles in Harris Hall (Aspen, CO), New World Center (Miami Beach, FL), Seiji Ozawa Hall (Lenox, MA), and Jordan Hall (Boston, MA). Sean holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Bassoon Performance from the New England Conservatory of Music (Boston, MA) where he studied with Richard Svoboda and Rick Ranti of the Boston Symphony Orchestra.
