*Special Guest CAPT Daniel Burbank, USCG, (Ret.) NASA astronaut
CDR Adam Williamson leads the band in an unmissable “Galactic Voyage” through space featuring
the music of Gustav Holst as well as living American composers Alexandra Gardner, Kevin Day,
and John Williams. This concert marks a special performance of the music that Williams composed
for “Star Wars,” as it will be the first time the Coast Guard Band has performed selections of the
music from all three Star Wars trilogies in the same concert. Kevin Day’s work “Galactic Voyage”
inspired the title of the concert, and Alexandra Gardner explores the vibrant annual July and August
meteor showers in her “Perseids.” Chief Musician Wesley Mayhew is featured in the “Bass
Trombone Concerto” by American composer Kenneth Fuchs, a seminal work for the rarely-featured
instrument that Fuchs composed in 2018.
