The U.S. Coast Guard Band welcomes live audiences at this free concert in Leamy Concert Hall on
the grounds of the history United States Coast Guard Academy. The concert program takes its title
from French composer Lili Boulanger’s work meaning “Of a Spring Morning,” an evocative
Impressionist work of both propulsive energy and surpassing delicacy that is exemplary of the
masterful use of wind instrument color typical of French composers of the time. Also on the program
is Percy Grainger’s jaunty and sentimental “Children’s March: ‘Over the hills and far away,’”
American composer Katherine Bergman’s 2016 work “Dream Machine,” American composer Kevin
Day’s fiery Cuban impression piece “Havana,” and Aaron Copland’s “The Promise of Living,”
conducted by Coast Guard Band trombonist Master Chief Musician Vince Yanovitch in his final
Leamy Concert Hall performance after a career spanning over 31 years.
