CONTENT MANAGER PROGRAM

This resource center provides Content Managers of USCG public websites guidance regarding required training, obtaining site permissions, accessibility standards, technical program updates, as well as policies regarding the release of information to the public.

PROGRAM INFORMATION

Web Content Managers must be trained in order to become AFPIMS Users and must have Public Affairs training in order to have release authority for press releases within AFPIMS.

If a unit has website updates that are less frequent than once every two months, they shall provide their content to a parent command with centralized administration.

Should you need to update your site more frequently, you will need to identify one primary and one alternate. Both the primary and alternate need to accomplish all training and documentation requirements.

REQUESTING ADDITIONAL ACCESS

  • If you are a current content manager and are looking to request additional access or need your access transferred to a different site, you will need to accomplish a new request form for audit purposes.

BIANNUAL AUDIT INFORMATION

  • A biannual audit will be accomplished by our team to ensure we are utilizing our licenses appropriately.  Content managers whose access was granted prior to April 2023 will be required to complete a request form, complete additional training (OPSEC and Section 508), as well as provide a leadership approval email.  All certificates and documentation can be submitted to our shared inbox for processing. SMB-COMDT-USCGPublicWebTeam@uscg.mil  **In your email please let us know that you are submitting your documentation for audit purposes.

SECURITY PROTOCOLS

  • After 90 days of inactivity your account will be automatically disabled by AFPIMS

PLAIN LANGUAGE

Plain Writing is effective communication that conveys a clear message to an audience.

The Plain Writing Act of 2010 was signed into law on October 13, 2010.  The purpose of the act is “to improve the effectiveness and accountability of Federal agencies to the public by promoting clear Government communication that the public can understand and use.”  This law changed how the government communicates with the public and all government agencies are expected to adhere to the requirements outlined in this regulation.

CREATE ACCESSIBILE DIGITAL PRODUCTS

Federal agencies are responsible for ensuring their information and services are accessible to persons with disabilities. The Revised 508 Standards include not just IT tools and systems, but electronic content such as documents, web pages, presentations, social media content, blogs, and certain emails.

DIGITAL ANALYTICS PROGRAM

Agencies should use web analytics to better understand user behavior for the purpose of improving public-facing websites and digital services.

Federal agencies are required to participate in the Digital Analytics Program (DAP). Learn more about the requirements for delivering a digital-first public experience to understand the policy framework in 21st Century Integrated Digital Experience Act and OMB Memo M-23-22.

DAP offers a web analytics tool, training, and support to federal agencies. The program is a shared service provided by the Technology Transformation Services (TTS) at the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA).
