Master Chief Musician Marjorie Sturm has served in the U. S. Coast Guard Band since December 1984. Before taking over various administrative duties full time in May 2006, Master Chief Sturm was principal horn for nineteen years and was hornist with the CG Band Woodwind Quintet for 17 years. Highlights include performances in the White House, Washington, DC, Leningrad, USSR (St. Petersburg, Russian), Portsmouth, England, Tokyo, Japan, Honolulu, HI, and 46 other states. She earned a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Kentucky in 1983 and a Master of Music degree in 1985 from DePaul University in Chicago, Illinois. She has performed with the Colorado Philharmonic Orchestra, the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, the Lexington (KY) Philharmonic Orchestra, and various Connecticut orchestras. Her teachers include Gail Williams, former co-principal horn of the Chicago Symphony, David Elliott, University of Kentucky and Lexington Philharmonic, and Jonathan Menkis, Boston Symphony Orchestra.
In addition to being the Master Chief of the Band, MUCM Sturm is currently the Rating Force Master Chief for the musician rate for the Coast Guard. In her leisure time, she enjoys running, cycling, and time with family.
