Rules of Practice, Procedure, and Evidence

This site provides copies of the rules that Coast Guard Administrative Law Judges use in presiding over administrative proceedings.

On April 6, 1998, we published a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) in the Federal Register [63 FR 16731], entitled “Rules of Practice, Procedure, and Evidence for Administrative Proceedings of the Coast Guard" A copy of that NPRM is attached as a supporting document.

On May 24, 1999, with the publication of the interim final rule in the Federal Register [64 FR 28054], the Coast Guard revised the rules for of Practice, Procedure, and Evidence for Administrative Proceedings by consolidating the rules for suspension and revocation and Class II administrative civil penalties in 33 CFR Part 20. A copy of the rule and its preamble is included in supporting documents.
