Master Chief Scott Reed assumed the duties of Reserve Command Master Chief for Southwest District in July 2026. He serves as the advisor to the District Commander on all matters relating to the reserve workforce and their families throughout the district, which encompasses California, Arizona, Nevada, Utah, adjacent coastal waters, and offshore waters down to South America.
Master Chief Reed enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard in 2002. He began his career on active duty assigned to Group Humboldt Bay and the Coast Guard Cutter Rush. Upon transfer to the Reserves, he served at the Sector Boarding Team in Portland, Oregon; Station Honolulu and Station Bellingham; Maritime Safety and Security Teams 91107 and 91104; Port Security Unit 312; and most recently as the Command Master Chief of Port Security Unit 313. He has deployed twice in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
Master Chief Reed’s personal decorations include the Coast Guard Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Coast Guard Achievement Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, and NATO Medal. He has earned the Port Security Unit Insignia, Boat Forces Insignia, and Response Operations Ashore Insignia.
Master Chief Reed received a bachelor’s degree in Justice Administration from Hawaii Pacific University. He is also a graduate of Reserve Class 40 of the Chief Petty Officer Academy.
In his civilian occupation, Master Chief Reed is a supervisory U.S. park ranger with the National Park Service.
