Master Chief Rainey Scrocco currently serves as the First Coast Guard District’s Reserve Command Master Chief. Her primary responsibility is to be an advisor to the District Commander on all matters and initiatives pertaining to all Coast Guard Reserves and family members within the First District. The First District includes eight states in the Northeast and 200 miles of coastline from the US-Canadian border to northern New Jersey.
Master Chief Scrocco previously served two tours as Sector North Carolina’s Reserve Command Master Chief and as the Senior Enlisted Reserve Advisor for Stations Oak Island, Wrightsville Beach and Fort Macon. Master Chief Scrocco’s other assignments include Sector North Carolina Administration, MSU/MSO Wilmington, and Group Fort Macon Personnel Division. Master Chief Scrocco was activated for Operation Noble Eagle in 2001-2002, Operation Deep Water Horizon in 2010 and various hurricanes.
She is a 1993 graduate of Winthrop University where she earned a Bachelor of Science and a Master’s Degree in Education with honors. She enlisted in the Coast Guard Reserve in 1998, graduated the Chief Petty Officer Academy in August of 2009, and attended the Coast Guard Senior Enlisted Leadership Course in May of 2017.
Her personal awards include a Coast Guard Commendation Medal, three Coast Guard Achievement Medals, the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, the Commandant’s Letter of Commendation, and eight Coast Guard Reserve Good Conduct Medals. She was also the 2006 Fifth District Reserve Enlisted Person of the Year and the winner of the 2011 Angela McShan National Leadership Award. Master Chief Scrocco donates her time to a variety of community efforts, including volunteering for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
