Mr. John Bragaw is currently serving as the Coast Guard’s Deputy Assistant Commandant for Engineering and Logistics (CG-4D). In this position, he is responsible for overseeing all naval, civil, aeronautical, and industrial engineering, logistics, and environmental and energy management programs for the Coast Guard's $22 billion capital plant which includes 23,000 facilities, 250 ships, 1,800 boats, and 200 aircraft. His responsibility also include the execution of an annual budget of $1 billion and leading over 5,000 personnel at Coast Guard Headquarters and the three Coast Guard Logistics Centers: the Aviation Logistics Center (ALC) in Elizabeth City, North Carolina; the Shore Infrastructure Logistics Center (SILC) in Norfolk, Virginia; and, the Surface Forces Logistics Center (SFLC) in Baltimore, Maryland.
Mr. Bragaw retired from Coast Guard active duty in 2010 after 25 years of duty. His assignments included Student engineer on CGC ALERT, Port Engineer at the Naval Engineering Support Unit New York, New; Chief Engineer on the Cutters DEPENDABLE and DAUNTLESS in Galveston, Texas; Executive Officer of the Naval Engineering Support Unit Miami, Florida; Commanding Officer of the 47’ Motor Life Boat Project Resident Office in New Orleans, Louisiana; Platform Manager for High and Medium Endurance Cutters at the Engineering Logistics Center in Baltimore, Maryland; Deputy Chief, Office of Naval Engineering Washington DC.
He played in integral role in the modernization of the Coast Guard’s Surface Assets logistics systems, serving in critical roles to establish the Standard Boat Asset Project Office (APO), a new command responsible for the transformation of the Coast Guard’s surface fleet to a new logistics model. He then stood up the Coast Guard’s first Surface Asset Product Line. He served in several roles as a Captain including Chief, Office of Naval Engineering; Executive Director, Surface Forces Logistics Center; and Industrial Manager, Coast Guard Yard. After retirement from active duty, Mr. Bragaw took over as the new civilian Deputy Chief for Naval Engineering in Washington DC for 3 years. He then moved to the Production Manager position at the Coast Guard Yard for the last 9 years.
Mr. Bragaw was born in Frederick Maryland and went to high school in St Mary’s County Maryland. He graduated from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in 1987 with a Bachelors Degree in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering and has a Masters in Systems Engineering from The George Washington University.
