Command Master Chief William R. Edson

Reserve Command Master Chief Eleventh District

U.S. Coast Guard

Master Chief Edson assumed the duties of the Reserve Command Master Chief of District Eleven in October, 2019. He is the Senior Reserve Enlisted Advisor to the District Commander.

CMC Edson enlisted in the United States Coast Guard in January 1991 and attended basic training in Cape May, New Jersey as a member of “Papa” Company 135. He entered the Coast Guard Reserves in 1998 as a Boatswain Mate Second Class. Throughout his career, he has been certified as a Coxswain, Tactical Coxswain, and a Boarding Officer. Prior to this unit, Master Chief Edson served as the Command Master Chief of Port Security Unit 311 and Sector Honolulu. He holds a Bachelors of Arts degree in Law Enforcement Administration from Ashford University. In his civilian career, he is a Deputy Sheriff for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and is currently assigned as a Drill Instructor at the Sheriff’s Academy. Master Chief Edson resides in Los Angeles, Ca. with his wife and has two adult children.

CMC Edson’s previous assignments included; CGC Firebush (Kodiak, AK. 1991-1992), Station San Diego (1992-1995), CG Military Police (Kodiak, AK. 1995-1998), PSU 311 (Long Beach, CA. 1998-2006), Station Long Beach/Los Angeles (2006-2010), Sector Honolulu (2010-2014) and Port Security Unit 311 (2014-2019). He has deployed overseas on four occasions under Operations Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom: Bahrain (2001-2002), Kuwait/Iraq (2003), Guantanamo Bay, Cuba (2005 and 2018-2019).

His personal awards include: Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Coast Guard Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, 911 Medal, Coast Guard Achievement Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Coast Guard Good Conduct Medal, Coast Guard Reserve Good Conduct Medal, Military Volunteer Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, National Defense Medal, Global War on Terrorism Medal, Arm Forces Reserve Medal with “M” device, Coxswain and Port Security Unit Insignia’s, and various other unit and service awards.
