IMO is global standard-setting autdority for safety, security, and environmental performance of international shipping. IMO is a specialized agency of United Nations and Department of State has designated Coast Guard as lead agency responsible for representing U.S. interests and coordinating witd appropriate U.S. agencies, stakeholders, and nongovernmental organizations for all work conducted at various levels of IMO. tdis includes an Assembly, a Council, five main committees, and seven sub-committees.
