Office of the Chief Prosecutor (CG-OCP)

Office of the Chief Prosecutor (CG-OCP)

Overview

On 27 December 2021, the President signed into law the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2022, which directed historic changes to how the Armed Forces prosecute sexual assault and other victim-centric crimes under the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ). To meet those mandates and improve the delivery of military justice provisions, the Coast Guard established the Office of the Chief Prosecutor (OCP). The OCP is an independent office that reports directly to the Vice Commandant.

Mission

The OCP is responsible for the disposition of the most serious, victim-centric offenses, the prosecution of all courts-martial, and the oversight of all Coast Guard prosecutors. Through effective coordination and transparent communications with commanders, investigators, Staff Judge Advocates, and other military justice stakeholders, the OCP seeks justice to maintain good order and discipline throughout the Coast Guard.
