Rear Admiral Todd A. Sokalzuk assumed the duty of Deputy Commander, Atlantic Area in July 2018. As Deputy Commander, he is responsible for all U.S. Coast Guard missions within a geographic region that spans the Rocky Mountains to the Arabian Gulf, and encompasses five Coast Guard Districts and 40 states.
Prior flag officer assignments include Commander of the Eleventh Coast Guard District headquartered in Alameda, California where he oversaw Coast Guard operations from the California-Oregon border to Peru including Arizona, Utah, and Nevada. In that position he also served as a Deputy Director for the Department of Homeland Security's Joint Task Force West, conducting integrated joint investigations and operations along the Southern border and approaches. His first flag officer assignment was the Assistant Commandant for Resources and Chief Financial Officer (CG-8) at Coast Guard Headquarters in Washington, D.C.
As an aviator, Rear Admiral Sokalzuk commanded Air Stations Savannah and Clearwater, was an instructor pilot at the Aviation Training Center, and was a duty standing pilot flying HH-3F Pelican and HH-60J Jayhawk helicopters. Other operational assignments include serving as the Deputy Commander of Activities San Diego and aboard USCGC SHERMAN and USCGC MORGENTHAU. Previous staff assignments include the Office of Aviation Management, the Office of Programs, the Chief of the Office of Budget and Programs, and the Chief of Staff to the Commander of the Eighth Coast Guard District.
Rear Admiral Sokalzuk is originally from Sunbury, PA and graduated from the Coast Guard Academy in 1985. He was designated a Naval Aviator in 1989 and is a 2007 graduate of the Air War College.
His military awards include the Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal, the Air Medal, Coast Guard Commendation Medal, and various unit commendations.
