Command Master Chief Jahmal Pereira

Deputy Commandant for Operations

U.S. Coast Guard

Command Master Chief Pereira assumed duties as the Deputy Commandant for Operations Command Master Chief, on June 07, 2021. His primary responsibility is to advise the Deputy Commandant for Operations on personnel and policy impacts pertaining to Coast Guard missions, programs, and services including: intelligence; international affairs; cyber; the maritime transportation system; commercial regulations and inspections; search and rescue; maritime security; law enforcement; defense operations; environmental response; contingency planning; and the operational capabilities of cutter, boat, aviation, shore, and deployable specialized forces.

Prior to this assignment, he served as the Ninth Coast Guard District CMC, where he advised the Ninth Coast Guard District Commander’s on issues and initiatives pertaining to all Coast Guard members and their families. The Ninth District encompasses the eight states that surround our Great Lakes, including 1,500 miles of international border, and a workforce of more than 6,000 Coast Guard active duty, Reserve, civilian and auxiliary men and women. Other previous assignments include serving as the Command Master Chief at the Coast Guard Leadership Development Center and as the Senior Enlisted Leadership Course School Chief. He served as an instructor for the Chief Petty Officers Academy in Petaluma, CA. He also served three tours in Kodiak, AK, two tours in Mobile, AL, as well as having served at several Marine Corps, Army, and other Coast Guard installations; to include Paris Island, SC, Camp Foster Okinawa, Japan, and Camp Pendleton, CA. Army Installations include Fort. Benning GA, Fort. Lee VA, and Fort. Bliss, TX.

CMC Pereira holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Information Technology with a specialty in Security Systems, a Master of Science Degree in Business Management, and is a certified Professional Executive Coach through (IPEC) the Institute for Professional Excellence in Coaching. He is a graduate of Class 157 of the Coast Guard Chief Petty Officer Academy, Class 33 of the Coast Guard Senior Enlisted Leadership Course, Class 65 of the U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy, and Class 19-2 of the National Defense University’s Keystone Command Senior Enlisted Course.

CMC Pereira’s awards includes awards commensurate with those with the same rank and years of service. In addition, he has earned the Army Professional Education Ribbon with five device; and other personal and service awards. He has earned the Coast Guard Basic Aircrew insignia, the Navy Marine Corps Parachute insignia, and Command Master Chief Silver and Gold Badge insignias.
