Command Master Chief McPhilamy assumed his current duties as Command Master Chief for the U.S. Coast Guard’s Director of Operational Logistics at Norfolk, Virginia in June 2018. He enlisted in October 1989, and has previously served aboard four cutters, four shore commands, two District offices, and at two headquarters units. CMC McPhilamy has served previously as the Gold Badge CMC for the Commanders of the Thirteenth District, the Seventeenth District, and the Maintenance & Logistics Command Pacific. Additionally he served as the Silver Badge CMC for both Base Kodiak and Sector Boston, and as the collateral duty Command Senior Chief at the Marine Safety Office Anchorage where he helped in the standup of Sector Anchorage.
CMC McPhilamy graduated with a Bachelor of Financial Planning from the Colorado Technical University, a Bachelor of General Studies from the University of Connecticut, and an Associate in Science from Lansing Community College. He is a Command Financial Specialist and an Accredited Financial Counselor.
He is a graduate of the Department of Defense’s Keystone course, the U.S. Air Force’s Senior Non-Commissioned Officer Academy, and the U.S. Coast Guard’s Senior Enlisted Command Master Chief course. CMC McPhilamy’s military awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, the Coast Guard Commendation Medal, the Coast Guard Achievement Medal, and the Commandant’s Letter of Commendation, along with both the Antarctic and Arctic Service Medals. He is authorized to wear both the Cutterman’s insignia and the Marine Safety insignia.
