Mr. Brian P. Burns serves as the Deputy Assistant Commandant for Command, Control, Communications, Computers and Information Technology (C4IT) (CG-6D) and Deputy Chief Information Officer (CIO) for the U.S. Coast Guard.
Mr. Burns started his Federal service in 1997 as member of the Senior Executive Service with more than 13 years of commercial information management, technology and product development experience. He served in several information management, technology, and cyberspace Deputy Assistant Secretary, CIO, Deputy CIO or other senior executive positions within the Department of Veterans Affairs; Department of Defense; Department of the Air Force; Department of the Navy; Department of Education; Department of the Interior; Department of Health and Human Services; and the Department of the Treasury Internal Revenue Service.
In the course of his career, Mr. Burns has received numerous awards and citations, most notably the Department of the Air Force Award for Meritorious Civilian Service, E-Gov Technology Leadership Award, 2005 Federal Computer Week Fed 100 Award, Federal CIO Council Showcase of Excellence Award, and the Department of Health and Human Services Secretary's Award for Distinguished Service.
Mr. Burns graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical and computer engineering from Drexel University and a Master of Arts degree in psychology for human factors engineering from George Mason University.
