Devin R. Spencer assumed the duties as the Command Master Chief of Atlantic Area in June of 2020. He is the Senior Enlisted Advisor to the Commander, Coast Guard Atlantic Area supporting the women and men conducting Coast Guard operations from the Rocky Mountains to the Arabian Gulf, spanning across five Coast Guard Districts and 40 states.
Master Chief Spencer is a native of Gulf Breeze, FL. He enlisted in the United States Coast Guard in 1995 at the age of seventeen. Upon graduating from Training Center Cape May, New Jersey, he reported aboard USCGC COURAGEOUS (WMEC 622) in Panama City, Florida where he struck the rating of Boatswain’s Mate. His subsequent assignments include Tactical Law Enforcement Team (TACLET) Gulf, LEDET Eight Delta; TACLET South LEDET 408; CG Station Pensacola, Florida; CG Station Kenosha, Wisconsin; USCGC WRANGELL (WPB 13310) in Portland, Maine and Manama, Bahrain; as Executive Petty Officer on USCGC TARPON (WPB 87310) in Savannah, Georgia; Deck Department and Command Chief on USCGC RESOLUTE (WMEC 620) in Saint Petersburg, Florida; Officer-in-Charge of USCGC BARRACUDA (WPB 87301) in Eureka, California; as Officer-in-Charge, CG Station San Francisco; Command Master Chief of Coast Guard Training Center Petaluma; and most recently, he served as the Command Master Chief of Coast Guard District Seven.
His personal awards include three Coast Guard Meritorious Service Medals with the operational distinguishing device, three Coast Guard Commendation Medals, the Coast Guard Combat Action Ribbon, as well as numerous other personal and unit awards. He is a graduate of the USCG Chief Petty Officer Academy Class 145 and honored recipient of the Spirit of the Chief award.
Master Chief Spencer and Jill Spencer have been married for 22 years. They are most proud of their three children: Isabella (21), Tyler (19), and Elizabeth Jane (16).
