Master Chief Clinton Self

Command Master Chief Clinton R. Self assumed the duties as Command Master Chief for Coast Guard Headquarters in August 2019 where he serves as the Command Senior Enlisted Leader for all U.S. Coast Guard personnel assigned to the Headquarters enterprise.  Most recently, CMC Self served as the Seventeenth Coast Guard District Command Master Chief in Juneau, Alaska. 

A native of Martinsville, Indiana, CMC Self enlisted in February 1992.  His afloat assignments include the Coast Guard Cutter WASHINGTON in Honolulu, Hawaii; the Coast Guard Cutter CIMARRON, Paris Landing, Tennessee; and the Coast Guard Cutter KANKAKEE, Memphis, Tennessee.

CMC Self’s shore assignments include Loran Station Saint Paul, Alaska; Station Michigan City, Indiana; Group Southwest Harbor Maine; Marine Safety Detachment Massena, New York; Sector Field Office Southwest Harbor, Maine; and Command Master Chief of Aviation Logistics Center, Elizabeth City, North Carolina.

CMC Self is a graduate of the Coast Guard Chief Petty Officer Academy Class 141, the Coast Guard Senior Enlisted Leadership Course, National Defense University’s Keystone Command Senior Enlisted Course, and holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Endicott College in Beverly, Massachusetts.

CMC Self’s personal awards include two Meritorious Service Medals; two Coast Guard Commendation Medals with operational distinguishing device; five Commandant’s Letter of Commendation Ribbons with operational distinguishing device; and other personal and service awards.  He has earned the permanent Cutterman insignia, and a Command Master Chief (Gold Badge) insignia.

CMC Self is married to his wife Shannon and has three children; Nathan, Samuel and Grace.
