The 175-foot keeper-class coastal buoy tenders are a new era in buoy tending. The keeper-class cutters serves a variety of Coast Guard missions.

Description

The keeper-class buoy tenders are equipped with Z-drive propulsion units instead of the standard propeller and rudder configuration. With state-of-the-art electronics and navigation systems, it is possible to maneuver and position navigation aids with a smaller crew. Although not classified as icebreakers, these ships can move through 9 inches of ice at 3 knots.
