Addressing Sexual Assault and Sexual Harassment

The Coast Guard is committed to communicating transparently about our efforts to address shortfalls aggressively and proactively regarding sexual assault and harassment. We acknowledge we have critical work to do to make sure every member of the Coast Guard has a safe work environment where they can thrive. Our actions focus on prevention, response and accountability, as well as critical work to strengthen our culture.

We have devoted and will continue to devote significant resources towards improving prevention, safety, victim support and accountability as directed by the Commandant. We are committed to working closely with the Coast Guard Investigative Service, DHS Office of Inspector General and other law enforcement officials to ensure perpetrators are held accountable and victims are protected.

IF YOU HAVE EXPERIENCED A SEXUAL ASSAULT OR SEXUAL HARASSMENT, we strongly encourage you to contact a sexual assault response coordinator who are experienced victim advocates available through the Sexual Assault Prevention, Response and Recovery Program. Their primary responsibility is to provide guidance regarding medical care, reporting, and any other support victims may want or need.

Our Commitment to Our Workforce

We are dedicated to providing a safe and supportive environment in which all members of our service can carry out their mission without fear or threat of sexual aggression.

We do not tolerate sexual harassment, assault, or aggression in any form at the Coast Guard.

We will always put the safety of our people first.

We take any allegations of sexual assault or sexual harassment very seriously and will readily and aggressively support and protect anyone who comes forward with information or allegations about such misconduct and respond with appropriate action.

We will strive to prevent harm and create a service that is aware of and sensitive to the issues of sexual harassment and assault, where all members and employees can thrive and succeed.
