140-foot bay-class tugboat

Characteristics
Length: 140 feet
Beam: 37.5 feet
Sustained Speed: 14.7 knots
Range: 1,500 nautical miles at 14.7 knots
Summary
140-foot Bay-class cutters are single-screw tugs used primarily for domestic ice breaking duties.
Description

The 140-foot Bay-class cutters use a low pressure-air hull lubrication or bubbler system that forces air and water between the hull and ice. This system improves ice breaking capabilities by reducing resistance against the hull, thereby reducing horsepower requirements. The Bay-class have begun a renovation program to renew the most elderly or vulnerable components.
