Assignment Year
As many of you know, Assignment Year 09(AY 09) was
particularly difficult for the OS rate - vast growth in OS rate produced a
significant number of vacancies that could not be filled due to a shortage
of personnel. We are still short approximately 140 OS’s at the OS3 and OS2
pay grade. This will likely remain our biggest challenge going into AY 10.
If you know of any top notch folks looking for a fast moving and rewarding
career, the OS rate is looking to hire. The OS rate will likely continue to
promote so I think if you want a good career in the Coast Guard there is a
great opportunity in the OS rating.
