The Office of Diversity and Inclusion conducted a Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) Train-the-Trainer Certification Seminar on 19 – 21 August 2014.  Dr. Betances and Dr. Souder provided the Coast Guard with excellent training and related tools.  The purpose of the training: (1) to assist the Coast Guard with building more cohesive teams and to enhance mission readiness. (2) To support Congress by complying with the U. S. Office of Personnel Management’s Federal Equal Opportunity Recruitment Program (FEORP) Report.  The FEORP Report is a mandatory report that requires federal agencies annually track Diversity and Inclusion Training.  We now have 32 Coast Guard D&I Trainers; each person is fully equipped and certified to conduct Diversity & Inclusion training.  Each trainer is responsible for scheduling and executing training within their area of responsibility.  Our goal is to have the entire Coast Guard trained by 30 September 2015.

Diversity is the uniqueness of all individuals which encompasses different personal attributes, values, and organizational roles.

Diversity Management is the process of creating and maintaining a positive environment where the differences of all personnel are recognized, understood, and valued, so that all can reach their full potential and maximize their contributions to the Coast Guard.
