Around 2100 on Friday, December 15, 2007, while
attempting to depart, the M/V Algonorth allided
with the Midwest Marine Terminal dock on the
Maumee River in Toledo. Over 3,500 gallons of
diesel were spilled when the hull breached during
the incident.
Prop wash, generated by the Algonorth as it
attempted to remoor to the pier, broke the mooring
lines of the adjacent vessel, the Amelia Desgagnes,
and caused her to drift out into the channel, without
power, toward the Algonorth.
Pictured right, the tug Nebraska places herself
between the ships, as the Amelia Desgagnes drifts
at a 90 degree angle toward the side shell of the
Algonorth, preventing a broadside collision.
Once the ship was safely moored to the terminal,
Coast Guard response crew surrounded the
Algonorth with an oil containment boom. The
Amelia Desgagnes was able to start her engines
and moor without incident.
