D9 PHOTO COLLAGEThe Ninth Coast Guard District is responsible for all Coast Guard operations throughout the five Great Lakes, the Saint Lawrence Seaway and parts of the surrounding states including 6,700 miles of shoreline and 1,500 miles of the international border with Canada. The 6,000 active duty, reserve, civilian and auxiliary men and women who make up the Ninth District deliver multi-mission services in search and rescue, maritime safety and security, environmental protection, maritime law enforcement, aids to navigation and icebreaking.

Today, #USCG SEC Detroit received report of a sunken vessel w/ 2 PIW IVO Shelter Island in Saginaw River. Scheduled Mission Station (SMS) Saginaw River responded, located the vessel and PIW. SMS rescued both PIW and took them to DNR Boat ramp to be transferred to EMS. Last night, #USCG SEC Detroit received report of a disabled 20’ Pontoon boat in Sandusky Bay, w/ 2 adults and 1 child aboard. Vessel was taking waves over the stern and unable to anchor. STA Marblehead responded, took the vessel in tow to Bay Harbor marina.
