USCGC STURGEON is a multi-mission Coastal Patrol Boat, and is responsible for maritime search and rescue, enforcement of laws and treaties, and maritime homeland security along the central Gulf Coast.
Search
and Rescue (SAR): Due to the limitations of small coast guard assets the
coastal patrol boats are required to be prepared to respond to SAR cases
any where in the Gulf of Mexico. SAR can be the most critical mission in
the coast guard when the boating public or professional mariners life may
be in danger.
Enforcement of Laws and Treaties: The Gulf of Mexico accounts
for a large amount of the seafood in the United States. Enforcing federal laws will
help preserve the plentiful ness of these resources.
Homeland Security: The Coast Guard has been performing homeland security well before September
11,2001. Today it has become more of an important mission to the coast guard
cutter sturgeon. Homeland security for the cutter sturgeon includes HIV security
boardings, river security patrols, and escorts of ships.
