Captain Lorenzen

Captain Lorenzen was born in Menlo Park, California and raised in Westbury, New York.  He earned his Bachelor's Degree in History and was commissioned in the Army in 1982 through ROTC at SUNY Brockport.  He completed the Infantry Officer Basic Course followed by Army Flight School at Fort Rucker then went on to fly UH-1 “Hueys”, OH-58 “Scouts” and AH-1 “Cobras” in Germany, Hawaii and Korea.  In 1991 he proudly accepted a commission in the U.S. Coast Guard through the Direct Commission Officer Program at TRACEN Yorktown, Virginia.

Captain Lorenzen’s first assignment was to Air Station Clearwater in 1991 flying as aircraft commander on the last of the HH-3F “Pelicans” before transitioning to the HH-60J Jayhawk.  He piloted the first Coast Guard H-60 to embark aboard a WMEC-270 for a prototype 30-day “SEABAT” deployment.  In 1995, he transferred to Air Station Kodiak, Alaska, where he continued to serve as an Aircraft Commander in the H-60.  He continued on to Air Station Cape Cod in 1998 where he served as Instructor Pilot, Flight Examiner and Assistant Operations Officer.  From 2002 to 2006 CAPT Lorenzen was the H-60 program manager at Headquarters.  He spearheaded the H-60 Airborne Use of Force and Vertical Insertion Programs, established the National Capital Region Rotary Wing Air Intercept Program, and co-teamed to create then sponsor the HH-60J to MH-60T conversion upgrade.  During this tour he earned his Master’s Degree in Education from Old Dominion University.  In 2006, he returned to Air Station Clearwater as Operations Officer.  During that tour he oversaw the 58 sortie C-130 airlift evacuation of OPBAT sites Great Inagua and AUTEC in the 72 hours preceding the massive devastation wreaked by Hurricane Ike.  He then travelled west in 2009 for assignment as Air Station XO, Logistics Chief, and CO of Military Personnel aboard Sector San Diego.  From 2011 to 2013 he served as Executive Assistant to the Assistant Commandant for Acquisition (CG-9), providing executive level support to five Flag Officers and Senior Executives across a wide variety of acquisition programs including the National Security Cutter, Offshore Patrol Cutter, Fast Response Cutter; HC-144A, HC-130J, Rescue 21, MH-65D, HC-130H, MH-60T and various other major and non-major acquisition projects.

Captain Lorenzen's military awards include four Meritorious Service Medals, Three Coast Guard Commendation Medals, an Army Commendation Medal and three Coast Guard Achievement Medals.
