CGC IBIS (WPB 87338)






On 29Jun13 at 2030 CGC Ibis was dispatched by Sector Delaware Bay and District 5 to assist the S/V Elusive approximately 95 Miles South East of Cape May, NJ. S/V Elusive had 03 persons on board and reported that they had broken their rudder off, shredded the main sail, and was operating under their auxiliary power with only 1 hour of fuel remaining. The sea conditions were forecasted as 6-8ft seas and building 8-10ft over night.

CGC Ibis arrived in the early morning hours on Sunday 30Jun13 and commenced towing the S/V Elusive in challenging sea conditions. On Scene weather was 6-8ft with occasional 10ft seas and winds 20-25mph. S/V Elusive was then towed approximately 80 miles just outside Great Egg Inlet where the Shamrock Towing Vessel Sea Courageous assumed the tow and took the vessel for repairs. No one onboard was injured.
