TERN is homeported in San Francisco, CA on Yerba Buena Island. She is the 43rd hull of the Marine Protector Class Patrol Boat built by Bollinger Shipyards in Lockport, Louisiana. TERN was commissioned in 2002 to replace the Vietnam Era USCGC POINT BROWER.
TERN is under the operational control of Coast Guard Sector San Francisco, in the 11th Coast Guard District of Pacific Area. TERN’s area of responsibility extends from Mendocino County to the North, Point Sur to the South, and out to 200 nautical miles offshore.
