
Captain
John F. Prince assumed duties in July 2011 as Chief of Staff, Eleventh
Coast Guard District. Prior to assignment as Chief of Staff, he served as
Commanding Officer of USCGC BERTHOLF (WMSL-750) homeported in Alameda,
California from 2009 to 2011. Captain Prince is a Cutterman and has completed seven
other sea-going assignments. He previously served afloat as Commanding Officer
USCGC JARVIS (WHEC-725) homeported in Honolulu, Hawaii; Commanding Officer
USCGC ACTIVE (WMEC-618) homeported in Port Angeles, Washington; Commanding
Officer USCGC WALNUT (WLB-205) homeported in Honolulu, Hawaii; Commanding
Officer USCGC SITKINAK (WPB-1329) homeported in Key West, Florida; Executive
Officer USCGC BITTERSWEET (WLB-389) homeported in Woods Hole, Massachusetts;
Commanding Officer USCGC POINT EVANS (WPB-82354) homeported in Alamitos Bay,
California; and as a Deck Watch Officer in USCGC VENTUROUS (WMEC-625) homeported
in San Pedro, California.
Captain Prince has completed staff assignments as Chief, Resource Management and Planning Branch at Commander, Coast Guard Pacific Area in Alameda, California; Officer Assignments Detailer at Commander, Coast Guard Personnel Command in Washington, DC; and Rescue Coordination Center Controller/Operations Duty Officer at Commander, Eleventh Coast Guard District in Long Beach, California.
Captain Prince is a 1985 graduate of the United States Coast Guard Academy, earning a Bachelors Degree with Honors in Marine Engineering & Naval Architecture. He subsequently earned a Masters Degree in Strategic Studies at the United States Marine Corps War College in 2007.
Captain Prince's personal awards include four Coast Guard Meritorious Service Medals with operational device, four Coast Guard Commendation Medals with operational device, five Coast Guard Achievement Medals with operational device, and the Commandant's Letter of Commendation Ribbon Bar.
