Under the direction of Coast Guard Band trombonist Chief Musician Sean Nelson, the Guardians
Big Band celebrates Mary Lou Williams whose legacy includes a multitude of arrangements for
Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong, Benny Goodman, and who taught, befriended, and mentored the
likes of Thelonious Monk, Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, Charlie Parker, and many others. The
Guardians will also feature Musician 1st Class Tyler Wilkins on the rarely-used-in-jazz Contraforte
on Bill Holman’s jazz ballad “The Peacocks.”
