Command Toolkit Reporting a Sexual Assault SAPR Policy

The following procedures apply for reports of sexual assault, but may vary depending upon who receives initial notification of the assault.

STEP ACTION
1 Health Care Provider (HCP) provides any needed emergency medical treatment and notifies the SARC.
2 Sexual Assault Response Coordinator (SARC) assigns a Victim Advocate (VA) to assist the victim.
3 The VA explains the Unrestricted/Restricted Reporting options and the processes associated with each, to include benefits and limitations.
4 Victim elects a reporting option (considering current disclosures) and VA documents the option on CG 6095, Victim Reporting Preference Statement.
IF THEN
Restricted VA notifies the SARC.
Unrestricted VA immediately notifies SARC who will then notify the victim’s commander and CGIS.
5 Victim is asked if he/she would like a forensic examination, and if he/she agrees the VA advises the HCP which reporting option the victim has selected.
IF THEN
Restricted Forensic evidence of the assault is collected and preserved in a non-personally identifying manner.
Unrestricted Forensic evidence of the assault is collected and criminal investigators take chain of custody.
VA (gender appropriate) can remain for the exam at the discretion of the victim.
6 HCP determines and schedules follow-up medical treatment as appropriate.
7 SARC reports the assault to CG-111 in a non-personally identifying manner.
IF THEN
Restricted SARC periodically follows-up with the victim.
Unrestricted Monthly updates are reported to CG-111 until resolution of the case.
8 VA maintains communication and contact with the victim as needed/requested for continued victim support.
