Who is Eligible for this Program? Disaster Relief Services are available to everyone in need in
time of disaster.
Other services are specifically intended for military members and their
families as discussed below.
Purpose of Program The American Red Cross, chartered by Congress, provides
relief to victims of disaster and helps people prevent, prepare for, and
respond to emergencies. Your Red Cross provides education to help prevent
and prepare for emergencies, as well as responding to emergencies.
Red Cross Disaster Relief focuses on meeting the emergency
disaster-caused needs of individuals and families. The Red Cross responds to
disasters ranging from single-home fire to national disasters.
Red Cross Service to the Armed Forces serves and supports
members of the military, veterans, and their families through a worldwide
network of Red Cross staff and volunteers. Services include providing:
emergency communications to keep families connected during family
comfort and care in military and veteran medical facilities,
access to emergency financial assistance;
information and referral services; and
outreach and support to military families.
Program Confidentiality Information provided to the ARC is not confidential,
except for information related to mental health counseling.
Services and Resources Available
Disaster Services - Red Cross provides food, shelter, and
health related services to address basic human needs. In addition, Red
Cross helps individuals and families to resume their normal daily
activities independently. This may include referrals to other community

- This website provides a way for individuals and families in a disaster
area to register as “safe and well.” It provides a list of standard
messages for use in notifying others.
Services and Resources for Military
Board of Veterans’ Appeals provides guidance to help
veteran claimants prepare, develop, appeal and obtain sufficient
evidence in support of veteran’s benefits claims.
Coping with Deployments: Psychological First Aid for Military
Families - This course provides useful information on
how family members can strengthen their own ability to successfully
respond to the challenges they may face while a loved one is
deployed and how they can assist others who may be going through a
difficult time. This course was designed specifically for the
spouses, parents, siblings and significant others of service
Emergency Communication - Links service members and
their families during an emergency such as serious illness, death,
or other critical emergency of an immediate family member. Toll free

Financial Assistance - The Red Cross partners
with the Military Aid Societies to ensure that service members and
their families have 24 hour access to funds wherever the emergency
