The U.S. Coast Guard has awarded the contract for bus services to U.S. Coast Guard Headquarters at St. Elizabeths to Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA). The contract includes regular service between the Anacostia Metro station and the St. Elizabeths campus and limited service via the L’Enfant Plaza station.
The shuttle stop at St. Elizabeths is outside Gate 4, the gate closest to the Coast Guard headquarters building. It is approximately 300 yards from the shuttle stop to the Lower Level 7 building entrance via an outdoor walking path.
Buses will not run on federal holidays or when the U.S. Office of Personnel Management has closed the federal government.
Hours of operation for bus service between Anacostia station and St. Elizabeths are Monday through Friday, 0530 to 1900. Limited service via the L’Enfant Plaza Metro station is available only during morning and afternoon rush hours.WMATA has schedules for both the Anacostia Metro (A4 Bus Route) and L’Enfant Plaza Metro (W9). Shuttle service is now available between the Coast Guard Headquarters Buzzard Point locations and the St. Elizabeths Campus Gate 4 via the West Campus Access Road at Firth Sterling.
Service is available from 0600 to 1900, with a minibus arriving every 25 minutes. Window signs will identify which shuttles are heading to St. Elizabeths.
Shuttle drivers will stop at all designated locations at scheduled times even if no passengers appear to be present. If the shuttle is at full capacity and additional passengers cannot be accommodated, the driver will notify waiting passengers that the bus is full and provide the next scheduled pickup time.
