William R. Brownfield was sworn in on Feb 1st 2011 as the Assistant Secretary of State for the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs, in a ceremony attended by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, other State Dept. officials, and various representatives from throughout the federal government. Coast Guard Vice Commandant Vice Adm. Sally Brice-O'Hara represented the Coast Guard. The Coast Guard and the Bureau are partners in the multi-agency effort to combat drug smuggling, often working together on training and support initiatives for Caribbean nations.
