ANT Puerto Rico began its service to the mariner in 1976. Originally designated as a detachment of the USCGC SAGEBUSH, the need of a permanent OPFAC was determined in 1980.

Our assets currently consist of one 26’ TANB, one 55’ ANB, one 4x4 Truck, and one government vehicle. ANT Puerto Rico’s personnel allowance is 13 enlisted; however, this unit can be over billeted at times. Our primary mission is Short Range Aids to Navigation. The unit may also be tasked with multiple missions including Search and Rescue, Ports Waterways and Costal Security, Alien Migration Interdiction Operations, Marine Environmental Protection, and Public Affairs.

This unit’s Area of Responsibility includes all of Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. ANT Puerto Rico currently services 14 lighthouses that date back to the Spanish Colonial Era. All of these light houses can be found in the National Historic Register. The unit is responsible for a total of 126 aids to navigation. We also service the USCGC OAK’s aids to navigation within our AOR.
