eLES Implementation - Member Copies of Paper LESs to be Discontinued

The paper Leave and Earnings Statement (LES) will be discontinued at the end of this year. All personnel have 24/7 access to LES information via the Direct Access "View My Paycheck" page.

Project timeline:

  1. October 2009:
    • Leave data added to the Direct Access "View My Paycheck" page.
    • Paper LESs for October mailed directly to active duty members' homes instead of to their units for distribution. LESs for Reservists are already mailed to the members' homes.
    • Servicing Personnel Offices (SPOs) given access to the "View Member's Paycheck" page in Direct Access.
  2. November 2009: Paper LESs, for November mailed directly to active duty members' homes instead of to their units for distribution. LESs for Reservists are already mailed to the members' homes.
  3. December 2009: Last printing/mailing of member copies of LESs.

ALCOAST message 676/09 provides additional information. Servicing Personnel Offices (SPOs) can access and print the eLES using the new "View Member's Paycheck" page in Direct Access for members who experience difficulty accessing it via Direct Access self-service.

Reviewing Your Pay Information

Why is it Your Responsibility?

As a member of the U. S. Coast Guard or U. S. Coast Guard Reserve, you should be aware of the entitlements you are authorized to receive and are required to immediately bring any discrepancies to the attention of your unit administrative personnel. You are responsible for reviewing your Leave and Earnings Statement (LES) or the "View Paycheck" page in Direct Access monthly. Not reviewing your LES or the View Paycheck page is not a reason for submitting a waiver or remission in the event of an overpayment.

This page provides easy access to guides created to help you understand the information that is presented on your LES and the Direct Access View Paycheck page. For additional training or questions, see your Administrative Support personnel.

Direct Access "View My Paycheck"

The electronic LES

The View Paycheck functionality has been present in Direct Access for quite a while now. During this period we have had many requests from our customers to include leave as part of this page. We began including leave data on View Paycheck page starting with the end of month October 2009 statement.

The printing and mailing of the member's paper copy of the Leave and Earning Statement (LES) will be discontinued as of the LES for January 2010. Each member has access to the e-LES via the View Paycheck functionality in DA. In addition, Servicing Personnel Offices can use the View Member's Paycheck (eLES) page to view the DA LES. They can continue to access the LES in the JUMPS system as well. Providing SPOs access to the View Member's Paycheck (eLES) allows the SPO the same view of pay information the member has and will aid the SPO when counseling members on pay issues. This initiative will save substantial funding as well as give the member quicker access to their leave and payroll information.

Understanding Your Leave and Earnings Statement (LES)

This presentation covers the basics to reading your LES. It Offers an example to better explain Appendix F of the Personnel & Pay Procedures Manual (3PM). And it explains why it is your responsibility to ensure accuracy. It was developed for the legacy-paper LES. However, the majority of the information presented is still applicable to the DA eLES (View Paycheck page)

The presentation is available in two file formats:
